U.S. Tourist Arrested for Alleged Obscene Gesture

An American tourist was arrested in Brazil after being accused of making an obscene gesture during customs procedures for U.S. citizens. Police said Douglas A. Skolnick, 55, of New Jersey raised his middle finger while being photographed and fingerprinted.
Police accused Skolnick of showing contempt to authorities while being checked in Foz do Iguacu, a southern resort town famed for its waterfalls.
The customs procedures were imposed in retaliation for similar U.S. rules for citizens of many countries, including Brazil. Skolnick is the second American arrested on similar charges.
