Priests Too Have Rights

“10 Priests in Lawsuits Still on Job” (Feb. 7) quotes a number of activists and attorneys who evidently believe that mere denunciation warrants removal from active ministry of priests named in sexual abuse lawsuits. But this is an affront to our conception of justice as Americans.
Our tradition is built on the presumption of innocence. We cannot fairly deny to Catholic priests what we grant to everyone else. And we do not protect our children through acts of punishment brought on by accusations that have little or no visible foundation.
