Garden Grove Freeway Crash Kills 2

A suspected drunk driver and his female passenger were killed early Saturday when their car hit another vehicle on the Garden Grove Freeway and then slammed into a tree, officials said.

The driver, Octavio Sandoval, 22, of Santa Ana, died at UCI Medical Center in Orange, after the 12:30 a.m. accident in Garden Grove, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Passenger Aracely Arciniega, 21, of Anaheim was ejected from Sandoval’s car and died at the scene, said CHP spokeswoman Staci Lundquist

Officer Robert Smith said Sandoval’s eastbound Mercury Cougar “went airborne and struck a tree, causing it to overturn” near the Fairview Street exit. Both Sandoval’s car and the Toyota he hit spun off the right side of the road. The driver of the Toyota was not injured.
