Fox News slogan is challenged

Liberal political action groups MoveOn.org and Common Cause continued their campaign against Fox News Monday with a filing at the Federal Trade Commission charging that the network’s use of the slogan “fair and balanced” is deceptive.

The petition follows on the groups’ charges that Fox News has a Republican bias, leveled in the documentary “Outfoxed,” partly funded by MoveOn. Fox News called the petition a “publicity stunt,” and FTC Chairman Timothy J. Muris said there was no way to evaluate it “without evaluating the content of the news at issue. That is a task the First Amendment leaves to the American people, not a government agency.”
