Commissioners Barred From Lease Talks

Five months after he prohibited city commissioners from sitting in on the evaluation and selection of contractors at agencies they oversee, Mayor James K. Hahn announced Wednesday that he also is ordering commissioners not to participate in lease negotiations.
Hahn said he wanted to eliminate even the perception that contract and lease decisions were being made for political reasons.
He said city staff members should evaluate and negotiate leases, and then present them to commissioners, who could review them at public meetings.
