Playing to win

I enjoyed reading Agustin Gurza’s article (“It’s Still All Work, No Play,” May 23).
I believe telling the story of success is the only way to attract a theater-going audience to support the new Montalban theater primarily because only those Latinos who have succeeded and integrated themselves into the middle-class can provide the financial support, in the form of subscriptions and full-priced attendance, to allow Latino cultural institutions to flourish.
Personally, I don’t feel compelled to go to the theater to see characters in the story fail and die nobly and to feel guilty because I have succeeded. I’ve tried to avoid that my whole life.
