A man was killed Wednesday when his car hit a median on a Laguna Niguel street, ricocheted into a tree and was torn in half, officials said.
The man’s name was not released, pending notification of relatives. He was described only as in his late 30s or early 40s.
“It appears that speed was definitely a factor,” said Lt. Hayward Miller, a spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. The accident occurred about 7:40 p.m. on Street of the Golden Lantern near the intersection with St. Christopher.
