Assembly Caucus Costs
The Republicans are attacking the Democratic caucus as having “gotten bloated” (March 7). The Democrats have “170 people serving 48 lawmakers at a cost of $10 million per year,” while the 32 Assembly Republicans “spend $7 million a year on their caucus, with a staff of 57 people.” In other words, the Democrats are spending $58,823.53 per caucus employee while the Republicans are spending $122,807.01 per caucus employee. Each Democratic representative’s share of that cost comes to $208,333.33, while each Republican counterpart’s share comes to $218,750. In other words, the Democrats are getting more bang for their bucks!
