Irate for Rita

In reading Agustin Gurza’s review of the talented Brazilian singer Maria Rita’s concert at Wadsworth Theatre [“Beyond the Dreamy Voice, an Image in Need of Help,” April 18], I had to look again at the headline to make sure I was reading a music review and not a fashion review. What do clothes and muscle tone have to do with what Rita sounds like? Why is he attacking personality traits and superficial appearance rather than focusing on her musicianship?
This is the problem with the music industry in America today. Show business is one thing and artistry is clearly another. When the reviewer doesn’t know the difference, we are really in trouble.
