Triumph of a ‘Trumpetiste’

The article on jazz musician Clora Bryant (“Swingin’ Through the Years,” by Emory Holmes II, Dec. 5) shows how sexism strongly shapes today’s world. Zeinabu irene Davis’ documentary on Bryant captures the struggle women faced to play “a man’s instrument.” But as Bryant persevered, she broke the gender barrier and paved the way for women of my generation, making our path easier. Our fight became less difficult because of her success and our hope became a reality because of her struggle.
