Cardenas, Hahn to Discuss El Toro Plans

City Councilman Tony Cardenas and Mayor James K. Hahn plan to hold a news conference today to discuss their hope that the Navy will lease to the city the closed Marine Corps Air Station at El Toro for use as an airport.
The city has long sought the former base to take pressure off crowded Los Angeles International Airport. But a majority of Orange County voters oppose an airport there. On Wednesday, the Navy is scheduled to begin auctioning the property.
