BOYS’ BASKETBALL
* Buchi Awaji, Los Angeles Loyola: Scored a career-high 40 points as the Cubs (11-3, 2-0), ranked No. 13 in the Southland by The Times, defeated Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, 72-60, in a Mission League game.
* Richie Garcia, Pico Rivera El Rancho: Made six three-point baskets en route to 21 points for the Dons in a 75-58 Del Rio League victory over Whittier.
* Claude Williams, San Bernardino Arroyo Valley: Had 41 points, including 15 on three-point baskets, as the Hawks (13-4) defeated Moreno Valley Canyon Springs, 77-71, in a nonleague game. Williams, who also had five steals, has scored 40 or more points five times this season.
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
* Lauren Powers, Santa Margarita: Was fouled and made the second of two free throws with no time left on the game clock as the Eagles (12-3) edged Rolling Hills Estates Peninsula, 48-47, in a nonleague game that Santa Margarita led, 20-5 after the first quarter and 31-18 at halftime.
* Megan Metcalf and Leah Murphy, Simi Valley: Metcalf scored the decisive points on a short jump shot as time expired and finished with nine points and Murphy scored nine of her 18 points in the fourth quarter as the Pioneers outscored Moorpark, 22-5, over the last 10 minutes of a 48-46 Marmonte League victory.
BOYS’ SOCCER
* Santiago Guiter, Dana Point Dana Hills: Scored two first-half goals and had an assist on another goal in the second half as the Dolphins (11-0-2, 1-0) defeated Capistrano Valley, 3-0, in a South Coast League shutout, Dana Hills’ fifth of the season.
