A (Grown-Up) Child’s Tribute to Paul Winchell
- Share via
I have such fond memories of Paul Winchell’s talent, obituary, June 26. During my first few years of elementary school, I raced home in the afternoons to tune in to “Winchell-Mahoney Time.”
I loved that show: the live children’s audience, the clubhouse that could only be accessed by sliding through a special doorway, and especially the wacky fun of Winchell’s distinctive characters.
I was sorry to learn that all of the episodes of this program had been erased during a legal dispute.
But I’m sure I’m not the only 40-something who remembers the opening lines of the show and can answer the question, “What’s the secret password?” (Scotty Wotty Doo Doo.)
