A Myanmar court has sentenced former Prime Minister Gen. Khin Nyunt to a 44-year suspended prison term, a legal official said.
Khin Nyunt, who was forced to step down by the ruling junta in October in a move seen as cementing the power of hardliners, is expected to remain under house arrest.
The sentence means the former leader could be sent to prison if he commits any crimes or wrongdoing during the 44 years, the official said.
