Schoolgirl’s Tsunami Knowledge Saved Lives

Tilly Smith, then 10 years old, put her geography lessons to good use: By quickly recognizing the warning signs of a tsunami, she sparked the evacuation of a Thai beach resort Dec. 26 and saved about 100 lives.
“My mum didn’t realize what was happening,” the English schoolgirl said. She visited the United Nations and met former President Clinton, the U.N. envoy for the tsunami recovery.
