Four fires on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border, including one that closed the Otay Mesa Port of Entry for nearly an hour, kept firefighters busy over the weekend.
A fire at a Mexican impound lot next to the border crossing started about 2 p.m. Sunday, destroying dozens of vehicles and forcing U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials to shut all northbound lanes.
A brush fire that began late Friday about 20 miles southeast of Tijuana burned at least 315 acres. In Chula Vista, engine and helicopter crews put out a half-acre brush fire Saturday near Interstate 805. In north San Diego County, state and federal crews extinguished a five-acre brush fire near Lake Wohlford.
