Judge Declares Yukos Oil Firm Bankrupt

OAO Yukos, once Russia’s biggest oil company, was declared bankrupt after a three-year campaign by government tax authorities that critics called a politically motivated campaign against Yukos’ imprisoned founder, Mikhail Khodorkovsky.
Arbitration Court Judge Pavel Markov ruled that the liquidation of its remaining assets should begin.
The company’s production unit Yuganskneftegaz was sold to the state after a disputed auction in December 2004.
