New LAPD Unit Would Get Use-of-Force Cases

Police Chief William J. Bratton on Friday proposed creating a new division to investigate all use-of-force incidents by officers.
Bratton said the current system of dividing the administrative and criminal probes between two offices was not working.
“This proved to be inefficient and ultimately resulted in time delays and inadequacies in the investigations, exposing the department to criticism,” Bratton wrote in a letter to the Police Commission, which is expected to vote on the proposed Force Investigation Division on Tuesday.
