Seal of Approval

Wednesday is International Day of the Seal. It has been sanctioned by Congress, so you know it’s important. Although it’s easy to find web-footed mammals in Southern California, there’s a problem: They’re boring. “They don’t do much,” says Omar De La Rosa, bartender at Luau Larry’s, a Catalina Island establishment infamous for the Wiki Wacker cocktail. “They kind of look like people who have spent too much time here.” Our first thought was that the holiday was in honor of the singer Seal, at right. Turns out he doesn’t do much, either. The latest appearance listed on his official website is more than a year old.
