Russia Releases Japanese Boat Captain

A Japanese fishing boat captain accused of poaching and illegally crossing an international border was released, nearly seven weeks after Russian authorities arrested him, officials said.
Noboru Sakashita had been in custody since Aug. 16, when shots fired by a Russian vessel killed one of the crab fishermen in waters claimed by Japan and Russia. Sakashita was fined $18,750 and his boat was seized.
