Tennessee’s Ainge has broken pinkie

Tennessee quarterback Erik Ainge has a broken pinkie on his throwing hand, but is expected to play Saturday at No. 12 California.

The senior jammed the right pinkie taking snaps on Monday and an X-ray on Wednesday revealed the break. Coach Phillip Fulmer said he expected it would take three to four weeks for Ainge’s finger to be back to 100%. Sophomore Jonathan Crompton was prepared to take over for Ainge if he struggles, Fulmer said.

Oregon State Coach Mike Riley said receiver Sammie Stroughter is not expected to play this season. Stroughter has missed much of fall camp while dealing with grief issues. . . . Florida left tackle Phil Trautwein, who has a stress fracture in his right foot, will not play Saturday against Western Kentucky, and he might be out for the season. . . . Alabama nose guard Brian Motley, who won the starting job in spring practice, broke his left ankle in Tuesday’s practice and will miss six to eight weeks.
