A drama out of West Point

The first African American cadet at West Point, Henry Flipper, survived harsh hazing and ostracism to graduate from the military academy in 1877; the second black cadet, Johnson Whittaker, was treated so brutally that he had no chance to repeat that success. Michael J. Chepiga’s drama “Matter of Honor,” set in the late 1880s, is about Whittaker’s struggles and his subsequent quest for truth and redemption. Cedric Sanders portrays Whittaker; Scott Schwartz directs.
