Pfizer Inc., the world’s biggest drug maker, won U.S. clearance to sell a single-dose shot for skin infections in cats and dogs, eliminating the need for pet owners to coax their animals into swallowing pills.
The antibiotic, called Convenia, lasts 14 days, replacing twice-daily medications for skin infections caused by an allergic reaction or parasite, New York-based Pfizer said.
Although Pfizer has struggled to get new drugs approved for humans, it has won approval for three pet products since 2007.
