2 held in Lake Forest killing

Two young men were in custody Friday in connection with a fatal shooting in front of a Lake Forest home, authorities said.

Deputies with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department found the victim, Luis Alejandro Rivera, 22, on the sidewalk in the 24000 block of Ankerton Drive shortly after 8 p.m. Thursday. He died at Saddleback Memorial Medical Center in Laguna Hills.

A dark sedan was seen fleeing the scene, said Sheriff’s Department spokesman Jim Amormino.

About 5:30 a.m. Friday, sheriff’s deputies arrested Edgar Cavillo, 19, of Santa Ana on suspicion of being the triggerman. A second man, 18, suspected of being a passenger in the car, was taken into custody a few hours later; his name was not released.

Two rifles, one believed to have been used in the shooting, were also retrieved, Amormino said.

He said the fatal shooting was not gang-related. Rivera and Cavillo knew each other and at one time were friends, Amormino said. Family members told deputies that Rivera worked at a tire shop, lived with his parents and was the father of a 5-month-old.

Rivera and the shooter had an argument, “but what that argument was about we don’t know yet,” Amormino said.

Deputies were still looking for another man they said they believe was driving the sedan. He was identified as Alfredo Cruz, 20, whose last known address is his parent’s home in Aliso Viejo.
