Driver held after rider dies in crash

A man is facing felony drunken driving charges in connection with a crash that killed a woman riding in his car Saturday, authorities said.
Danny Calvin Ruiz, 35, was driving west in a Chevrolet Blazer on Camino de Estrella at Calle Naranja when he jumped the curb and crashed into a large tree about 9:30 p.m., said Lt. Ted Boyne of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
The unidentified woman female passenger, who was in her 30s, died at the scene, Boyne said.
Ruiz was arrested and taken to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo with moderate to serious injuries, according to the lieutenant.
