A 51-year-old Los Angeles woman was killed and five others were injured Friday in a three-car crash on the westbound 22 Freeway, the California Highway Patrol said Saturday.
The collision happened east of the Brookhurst Street exit at 11:04 p.m.
One car slammed into two other vehicles that, for an unknown reason, had come to a halt in one of the lanes, according to the CHP.
Gale Sosa, a passenger in the first car that was rear-ended, died three hours later at UCI Medical Center.
Five other people suffered injuries that were not life-threatening, the CHP said.
Several lanes were closed for about two hours after the incident.
It was not clear how fast the car was going when the accident occurred.
The cause of the crash was under investigation.
