Just a doggone minute there!

How wonderful to read Rosemary McClure’s article about taking her newly adopted dog to California hotels that cater to man and woman’s best friend [“Sit! Stay!,” Sept. 21]. More delightful for us was seeing the photos and reading about the most wonderful breed of dog, the wheaten terrier.

Now, I’m a dog owner/lover just like the writer, but c’mon . . . the picture of that hound sprawled out on a hotel bed gave me the creeps. I wish there had been a paragraph or two devoted to exactly how these hotels sanitize the room after a dog has been occupying it.

And, oh yeah . . . perhaps an additional tip or two might have been in order to remind these fawning dog people that not everyone appreciates being sniffed in the elevator, or having their toes licked by the pool, while the doting, smiling owner looks on in silence.

When my home was undergoing major renovations, my dog and I lived at the Hyatt Regency Century City Plaza for two months last fall. They were not only dog-friendly, but also dog-loving.

My dog quickly became hotel guests’ and staffers’ resident pet. We were treated royally. They also have a dog treat menu for room service and we never paid a pet fee.

Are you serious? The front page of last Sunday’s L.A. Times reads, “Bailout Tab: $700,000,000,000.” This country is suffering from the worst financial disaster in modern history and the Travel section’s feature article is about SoCal luxury hotels that will pamper your dog? What are you thinking?
