Red Sox fall out of first place

at Texas 4, Boston 2: Rangers rookie Tommy Hunter pitched six solid innings to beat Josh Beckett and knock the Red Sox out of first place in the AL East. Boston has lost four straight for the first time since last July, scoring only eight runs in the stretch.

at Detroit 9, Seattle 7: Magglio Ordonez hit a grand slam in a five-run first inning and the Tigers held on to beat the Mariners. Tigers closer Fernando Rodney allowed the first two batters to reach in the ninth before retiring the next three for his 20th save in 20 tries.

Cleveland 2, at Toronto 1: Victor Martinez hit a two-run double in the ninth and Cliff Lee pitched his second complete game in a row for the Indians.

Tampa Bay 3, at Chicago 2: Carlos Pena’s sacrifice fly off Bobby Jenks capped a two-run ninth.

Minnesota 3, at Oakland 2 (10 innings): Michael Cuddyer hit a go-ahead triple in the 10th inning. Cuddyer’s two-out triple off All-Star closer Andrew Bailey scored Joe Mauer.

Angels 8-10, at Kansas City 5-2: Erick Aybar had three hits in the first game, then had four hits in the nightcap.
