Security grows as library issue

Re “Library lends itself to thefts,” March 5
The problem of theft and security is not unique to the downtown public library. The branches contend with theft, mentally ill homeless, drug addicts and vandals too -- and they don’t enjoy the services of the full-time security guards who work at the central library.
People in the branches are on their own until police arrive. Security is becoming more important in the library than books and librarians.
