Book flight under the name on ID

Regarding “The Name Game,” by Catharine Hamm [On the Spot, Sept. 6]: Last year, my husband had no problem flying from L.A. to N.Y. under the name of “Jim” instead of “James.” The return trip was a different matter. We were held up long enough at check-in that we thought we might miss the flight. They finally let us on, but please emphasize to readers that they need to book their flights under the name on their ID.
