Chile Festival

Highlights: The Food Network, BBC and 30,000 attendees show up to sample a variety of spicy dishes based on the festival’s namesake pepper. The event includes a pageant, carnival and artisan booths.

Bumbershoot
When, where: Sept. 4-6, Seattle Center
Highlights: Bob Dylan, Weezer, Mary J. Blige, Neko Case and Hole headline this three-day event devoted to the performing arts. Comedy, film, literary and visual arts accompany the musical acts.

Santa Cruz County Fair
When, where: Sept. 14-19, Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds
Highlights: “Apple Pies and Family Ties” is this year’s theme, and there’ll be typical fair fare: carnival rides, farm animals and, yes, apple pie. Performing headliners include Gallagher, Bucky Covington and Pro Wrestling Revolution.
