Sum 41’s Deryck Whibley buys a gated villa in Encino for $2.8 million

Deryck Whibley of Sum 41 fame has bought a house in Encino for $2.8 million.

Set on a cul-de-sac, the Mediterranean villa-style house was built in 2005 and has a motor court with two gated entrances.

The roughly 6,300 square feet of living space includes a two-story foyer and a step-down living room that opens to a dining room and adjacent wine room. An office/library and a game room with a wet bar sit off the wine room.

A family room has a fireplace. The chef’s kitchen is outfitted with two islands, custom cabinetry and a wine refrigerator.

Three walk-in closets, a sitting room and a two-sided fireplace highlight the master suite. In all, there are five bedrooms and six bathrooms.

Outdoors, there’s a covered loggia, an outdoor fireplace and a swimming pool and spa done in blue mosaic tile. A cabana, formal landscaping and lawns complete the setting.

The house came on the market in last year for $4.1 million and was more recently priced at $2.85 million, records show.

Wes Wellman of Wellman Realty Co. was the listing agent. Nicki LaPorta and Karen Crystal of Ewing & Assoc. Sotheby’s International Realty repped the buyer.

Whibley, 35, is a founding member of the rock band Sum 41, for which he is a guitarist and lead vocalist. The band is set to release its sixth studio album later this year.
