Grammys 2013 fashion: J Lo got the dress code memo, sort of

Jennifer Lopez is known for heating things up on the red carpet. She excels in covering up just enough to not be considered naked.

Some of her most risque outfits include her nude, embroidered Zuhair Murad gown at the Golden Globe Awards earlier this year; the velvet, gold Marchesa halter dress she wore to the 2009 Golden Globes; and that infamous sheer Versace print dress with plunging neckline she daringly donned for the 42nd Grammy Awards back in 2000. So when CBS issued a wardrobe standards advisory memo before Sunday night’s show, all eyes were on Lopez -- or at least she thought so.

“As you can see, I read the memo,” said Lopez in a red carpet interview before the show. The actress and singer chose a one-shoulder Anthony Vaccarello gown with a slit that ran up the entire length of her right thigh.

The memo specifically warned attendees to adequately cover their “buttocks and female breasts, bare fleshy under curves of the buttocks and buttock crack, bare sides and curvature of the breasts.” They were also encouraged to avoid sheer clothing and thong-type costumes.

After the network’s broadcast of the infamous Janet Jackson wardrobe “malfunction” during the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show, the memo wasn’t a complete surprise, but it put an extra bright spotlight on those who typically show some skin -- especially at an awards show known for being a fashion free-for-all.

Lopez may have been mocking the memo with her wardrobe choice, but she “technically” followed the rules. A little thigh action never hurt anyone, right? And her outfit did garner some compliments from other attendees.

“You look gorgeous, and you inspired the memo,” Pitbull told J Lo.

Well, if Pitbull liked the look, that’s all that matters.
