The Grammy Museum and the Americana Music Assn. have formed a partnership that’s expected to bring more artists and their music to the downtown Los Angeles museum.
The first shows under the new arrangement will be singer-songwriter Mary Gauthier on April 21, and a week later, on April 28, New Orleans band Hooray for the Riff Raff. The events will take the form of a question-answer session and small-scale performance in the museum’s 200-seat Clive Davis Theater.
“We’ve had a lot of Americana musicians at the museum, and we felt it was time to make it a more formal partnership with the Americana Music Assn. and really put the word out,” said Lynne Sheridan, the museum’s director of public programs and artists relations, who is producing and booking the Americana series.

She said the hope is to present four or five events each year under the Americana series, but she noted that “we already have two booked in the same month” in April.
The partnership with the Americana Music Assn., she said, should facilitate getting more artists at the museum, and members of that organization will be offered discounts to events that will be booked at the Grammy Museum, most of which will be hosted by Scott Goldman, vice president of the Grammy Foundation’s MusiCares wing.
“There are a ton of Americana artists who should be recognized, and we have a good platform here to showcase them,” Sheridan said. “Not all of these artists can sell out arenas around the world, but they tell great stories and are amazing songwriters. It’s a great way to partner and support each other’s missions.”
