Daily Grill downtown to close, space will reopen as Public School 213

The Daily Grill location downtown is scheduled to close March 29. Public School 612, the gastropub that opened in the bar area of the Daily Grill in 2011, will expand and take over the entire restaurant.
Public 612 will also close March 29, and plans to reopen as Public School 213 with a redesigned, 6,600 square feet, and around 220 seats sometime this summer.
“We were looking to launch a beer-centric, chef-driven concept, so we converted just the bar in our Daily Grill and opened it up as a Public School on nights and weekends,” said Daily Grill President and CEO Bob Spivak in a statement. “The concept has done well and we are convinced converting the entire space to a Public School is more in line with downtown’s changing restaurant and nightlife scene.”
Phil Kastel, who created the Public School menu, plans to add more dishes to the new menu, including shrimp and white cheddar grits; Dragoons Irish stout short ribs; roasted poblano with quinoa; more salads, burgers and pizza.
The space will undergo a complete revamp to include a private dining room and more games.
Public School 213 will be open for lunch, dinner, weekend brunch and its signature happy hour, called recess.
There are three other Public School locations in Southern California, including Culver City, Sherman Oaks and Thousand Oaks.
