Crate & Barrel to release limited-edition artists’ teapots
- Share via
The simple, white porcelain teapot gets interpreted in some fresh ways in Crate & Barrel’s new line by 12 international artists. The limited edition collection premieres Dec. 1 in honor of Crate & Barrel’s 50th anniversary, with a different design showcased every month thereafter. Each of the Bauhaus-inspired teapots will be signed, numbered and limited in quantity to 200, available online.
Helsinki, Finland-based artist Janine Rewell launches the series with “Sea Journey,” shown at top left, a design inspired by her love of Slavic folk art and Scandinavian design.
Subsequent contributors to the 50th&Forever line include:
- Brooklyn artist Lourdes Sanchez (January)
- Portland, Ore., artist Yellena James (February)
- Husband-and-wife design team Jeff Barfoot and Shay Ometz of Dallas-based Bee Things (March)
- London-based designer Nomoco (April)
- German graphic designer Sabine Reinhart (May)
- Minneapolis illustrator Elvis Swift (June)
- New York artist and illustrator Andrew Bannecker (July)
- German-born illustrator Olaf Hajek (August)
- Italian architect and designer Paola Navone (September)
- London artist Jenny Bowers (October)
- Brooklyn-based illustrator Julia Rothman (November)
The teapots are $200 a piece; shipping is $4.95. Crate & Barrel said sales will be limited to one per customer per each month’s design.
