Bay Area man dead after Porsche plummets to bottom of a Malibu canyon

A 22-year-old man was found dead Sunday in Malibu after he lost control of his car and plummeted several hundred feet to the bottom of a canyon in the Santa Monica Mountains, authorities said.
The man was speeding westbound on Piuma Road in a 1998 Porsche at about 11 a.m. when he lost control, crossed into the eastbound lane and careened down a steep embankment, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The driver, identified only as a resident of Foster City, was pronounced dead at the scene.
No one else was inside the car, but the CHP said he was traveling through the mountains with acquaintances in other vehicles.
The first responders lowered a paramedic from a helicopter to the car. County fire crews later removed the man from the car.
The L.A. County coroner’s office has not released the man’s identity pending notification of his next of kin.
