Authorities are investigating the death of a man who was set on fire early Monday in South Los Angeles.
Police received a call about 3:30 a.m. about a burning body near 57th and Fortuna streets, near Augustus F. Hawkins Natural Park in the Central-Alameda neighborhood, said Officer Rosario Herrera, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Police Department.
The body was described as a male, but his identity had not been determined, Herrera said. A homicide investigation was underway and detectives were on scene early Monday, she said.
In the last 12 months, at least five people have been killed within a mile of East 57th and Fortuna Street, according to the Times’ Homicide Report.
