Man shot and killed in car in Del Rey

A man was shot and killed in his car early Saturday in the Del Rey neighborhood of Los Angeles, police said.

The shooting was reported about 12:30 a.m. near the intersection of Braddock Drive and Berryman Avenue, said Sgt. Steve Nassief of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Pacific Station.

The man had just left his home when his family heard gunshots. The shooter may have been in another car, but authorities are still investigating the circumstances.

The victim’s name was not released. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police believe he may have been mistaken for a gang member.

The victims’s car crashed into a parked truck when his foot hit the accelerator after the shooting, Nassief said.
