7-mile stretch of freeway in San Diego County to close for 14 hours

A seven-mile stretch of Interstate 805 in southern San Diego County will be closed starting at 3 p.m. Sunday for construction, Caltrans said.
The shutdown between California Highway 54 and California Highway 905 will last until 5 a.m. Monday. Motorists are advised to take Interstate 5 or California Highway 125.
The closure is required for the removal of the East Palomar Street Bridge over I-805 in Chula Vista, one bridge girder at a time. The demolition will allow for construction of direct-access routes so that buses, vans and other vehicles can enter the freeway directly into carpool lanes.
In keeping with recent parlance, the closure is being referred to as Darmageddon. DAR is a Caltrans acronym for a direct-access route.
