A 64-year-old man was killed Saturday in a boat crash during an organized race in San Dimas, officials said.
The crash occurred at about 11 a.m. on a lake in Frank G. Bonelli Regional Park. The lead boat lost control, and the boat traveling directly behind crashed into the first boat, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. John Stanley said.
Gregory Belda of Los Angeles, who was in the first boat, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
“The boating collision occured during a sanctioned, professional boat race,” Stanley said.
Authorities provided no additional information, and Los Angeles County lifeguards are investigating the crash.
A March 8 race held by the Sprint Boat Racing Assn. is listed on Bonelli Park’s website.
