A midday magnitude 3.1 earthquake that struck near Marina del Rey on Friday was felt by people across the Westside of Los Angeles.
Mar Vista resident Ermanno Signorelli, 78, said the earthquake felt like “just a little bump.”
“It shook the house a little a bit,” he said, adding that nothing fell from any shelves and everything seemed to be in order.
He added in jest: “Everybody’s alive.”
The shallow earthquake occurred at 11:48 a.m. PST at a depth of 6.2 miles, according to a report from the U.S. Geological Survey. It was initially reported as magnitude 3.0.
According to the USGS, the epicenter was two miles from Santa Monica and four miles from Culver City.
People reported feeling the quake from as far away as South Gate, but most of the dozens of people reporting to the USGS’ “Did You Feel It?” website were from the Westside communities of Culver City, Venice, Beverly Hills and Santa Monica.
In the last 10 days, there have been no earthquakes magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby, according to the USGS.
