A 14-year-old boy was arrested Friday in connection with the fatal stabbing of an elderly woman in Lancaster, authorities said.
Investigators say Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded about 6:30 p.m. Thursday to a call about an “open window” at a home in the 44600 block of Stillwater Drive.
Lt. Eddie Hernandez said deputies entered the home and found an 86-year-old woman inside her bedroom with multiple stab wounds to her upper body.
The woman, who was known to sometimes use a motorized wheelchair, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Her name has not been released.
Hernandez said neighbors told investigators that they had seen a young man hiding behind some bushes several houses away. Deputies responded to the location and took the teen into custody.
Hernandez said investigators determined the boy had been in the area in the past couple of months, but did not know why. He said the teen has no connections to the neighborhood or the victim.
Investigators arrested and booked the teen on suspicion of murder after interviewing him for several hours, Hernandez said. The teen was not identified because he is a minor.
Investigators plan to present the case to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office on Tuesday.
