Traffic on the northbound 5 Freeway was backed up Thursday after a motorcyclist collided with a car and wound up lying in the middle of the road.
The accident occurred about 7:30 a.m. on the northbound 5 Freeway near Florence Avenue in the Santa Fe Springs area, said California Highway Patrol Officer Ed Jacobs.
One lane of the freeway was soon reopened as crews rushed to the scene. The motorcyclist sustained only minor injuries after other motorists stopped to protect him from getting hit by oncoming cars, Jacobs added.
Jacobs said it was unclear when all of the lanes would be reopened and that most of the preliminary information was coming from 911 calls.
