Readers React: Warn other nations about American sex offenders

To the editor: It must be recognized that some acts are inherently evil. Sex offenses fall into that category. (“Do sex offenders deserve a scarlet letter on their passport?,” editorial, Feb. 3)
Someone who has robbed a bank or been in jail for drug offenses cannot compare to the depravity of pedophiles and sex offenders. If we are not willing to protect the innocent against those who have committed such heinous crimes, then we are willing to compromise our values for someone “who has done his time.”
Marking the passports of people who have committed sex crimes against minors seems like a great idea to me. Maybe sex offenders need therapy to work out their deep and very antisocial problems if they are unable to sate their urges. They might even have to forgo that vacation and spend their money on treatment instead.
Anyone who has seen the devastation caused by sex offenders will likely care more about the rights of the innocent victims than the sex offender who has served his time.
