Crush girls under-14 team remains undefeated in Region 97

Brittany Sowers scored three goals and Alex Haskin and Julie Thomas
added single goals to lead the Newport Crush girls under-14 soccer
team to a 5-1 victory over the Costa Mesa Gremlins in AYSO Region 97
soccer action on Oct. 11.
Margaret Vento, Kristen Bassler, Kelly Clark, Stephanie Stone and
Jillian Fox were credited with assists for the Crush, which remained
undefeated.
Megan Beauchamp, Maranda Ruiz, Jordan Moy, Katrina Johnson,
Elizabeth Pratty and goalkeeper Nichole Horlick powered the defense.
* Spiffinators 5, Lil Pickles 1:
Kara Foster scored two goals while Nikki Liddicote, Alexandra
McIntosh and Marlena Hamilton each found the back of the net once for
the Spiffinators, who won their seventh straight game.
Katherine Sanders, Desiree Alexander, Kylie Sheppard, Laura Catron
and Lauren McGill led the defense.
The Crush followed up that win with a 4-0 victory over the Costa
Mesa Black Magic Tuesday, Oct. 14.
Sowers scored two goals with assists from Haskin and Fox.
Vento added two more goals on passes from Clark and Thomas.
Johnson led the defense in front of goalkeeper Horlick.
In girls under-12 action:
* The Beach Babes tied the division’s first-place team, 1-1, with
a strong effort.
Stephanie Storch, Lindsay Ricker, Bianca Nasser and Whitley Peters
shined on defense while Kelly Rordan, Kiley Johnson and Maddy Storch
led at least eight attacks on goal.
In boys under-12 action:
* Blackjacks 3, Raiders 2:
The Blackjacks rallied to hand the Raiders their first loss of the
year.
Daniel Netzer scored two goals while Kyle Evans added the other
for the victors.
Luke Dawson, Ryan Andrews and Kawika Morse all contributed to the
win with midfield support given by J.D. Vickers, Stephen Denghausen
and Casey Bushong.
Wil Curiel, Mathew DiFrancesco and Matthew Hurst blocked the goal,
which was occupied by Netzer, Evans and Bushong.
The Raiders held the Blackjacks scoreless until the third quarter
with strong goalkeeping from Chris Mendez and Easton Giedt.
Justin and Jordan McLaren deterred Blackjacks’ attackers with
Kevin Nguyen and Charlie Massingill making well-timed passes.
Mario Figueroa and Mendez each scored goals for the Raiders with
offensive help from Austin Knott, Matt Mello and Rory Kew.
Jack Ahearn, Wyeth Rietveld and Devin Hovis created scoring
chances at forward.
In girls under-11 play:
* Newport 0, Tustin 0:
Newport remained undefeated in APP play with the tie.
Lauren Grupe, Natalie Swift and Beth Barnard each had shots on
goal with Blakeley Ficenec, Claire Silva and Sarah Wilkey were
relentless in their pursuit against Tustin.
Amy Kanotz, Kiana Whipple, Tori Sarris, Chelsea Barth and Veronica
McLean led the midfield with Mary Yeager, Hannah McLeod, Gwen Gaylord
and Sadye Busby anchored the backfield.
In girls under-10 action:
* Blue Crush 4, Golden Flames 1:
Courtney Buck scored in the second and fourth quarters to lead the
Blue Crush to the victory. Jamie Searles scored her first goal of the
season in the second quarter with Savanna Gastineau adding a goal and
an assist. Shannon Barth also tallied an assist.
Sara Cluck played solid defense at midfield and as goalkeeper
while Morgan Donahue kept the ball outside the penalty box.
Ana Figueroa and Kendall Walker produced strong drives on offense
and Devin Donahue moved the ball into Flames’ territory.
Kyla Kerr produced large goal kicks and Brinley Siemonsma advanced
the ball regularly as a sweeper.
Gretchen Monke added support.
