Josh Beckett will undergo an MRI exam Tuesday in an attempt to find the source of numbness in his fingers.
Beckett has been sidelined since May 13 with a strained groin. He is believed to have been experiencing the numbness before then.
Beckett was 0-5 with a 5.19 earned-run average when he landed on the disabled list.
While Beckett is awaiting the results of his examination Tuesday, Stephen Fife will be pitching for Class-A Rancho Cucamonga. Fife has been on the disabled list with shoulder inflammation since April 21.
A.J. Ellis, who was hit by a pitch on his left wrist, underwent an X-ray exam that came back negative.
Left-handed reliever Scott Elbert will resume his minor league rehabilitation assignment on Wednesday with triple-A Albuquerque. Elbert, who is recovering from a pair of off-season elbow surgeries, has pitched in eight minor league games between Class A and double A.
