Boys’ basketball: Grant pulls out overtime win to reach Division II semifinals

Howie Levine has been the coach at Grant High for 29 years. He’s never won a City championship, but he’s back within striking distance after the Lancers advanced to the Division II semifinals with a 52-51 overtime win over Los Angeles on Tuesday night.
Chad Holloway scored on a layup with 23 seconds left in overtime, was fouled and made the free throw to give Grant the victory. Alex McQueen’s three-pointer in regulation had sent kthe game into overtime. Holloway finished with 20 points. McQueen had 12 points.
Grant will face No. 1-seeded King-Drew in Friday’s 8 p.m. semifinal at Bernstein. King-Drew defeated Arleta, 69-49. Josiah Breda-Nixon scored 22 points. The other semifinal has Hamilton facing Marshall.
In Division III, Van Nuys won in overtime over RFK, 82-77. Jason Brown scored 22 points.
The semifinals will be Van Nuys vs. Bernstein and North Hollywood vs. Franklin. Both will be at Granada Hills Kennedy. Sean Fernandez had 31 points in North Hollywood’s semifinal win.
