Boys’ basketball: Orange Lutheran advances to Open Division semifinals

Orange Lutheran, the No. 12 seed, pulled off what might be considered the biggest surprise yet of the Southern Section Open Division playoffs, knocking off No. 4 Corona Centennial, 78-73, on Wednesday night in a quarterfinal game.
Keisean Lucier-South, headed to UCLA on a football scholarship, rose up to score 19 points. CJ Hankins had 17, Joseph Riley 16 and Rogers Printup 15. And Chris Williams hit four clutch free throws in the fourth quarter to ice it.
The Lancers (24-4) will play No. 1 Bishop Montgomery (28-1) in Saturday’s semifinals. Bishop Montgomery received 20 points from Stephen Thompson Jr. in a 59-47 win over Cathedral. Kobe Paras had 14 points for Cathedral, which lost for the third time this season to the Knights.
Another upset was No. 5 Etiwanda defeated No. 3 Sierra Canyon, 65-60. Kameron Edwards scored 23 points. Remy Martin led Sierra Canyon with 18.
Etiwanda will face Mater Dei, a 73-62 winner over Chino Hills. La’Vette Parker scored 23 points, Rex Pflueger 22 and M.J. Cage 18.
In consolation games, St. John Bosco defeated Cantwell-Sacred Heart, 64-61. Vance Jackson scored 26 points. Damien defeated Alemany, 74-61. Jeremy Hemsley had 19 points. Redondo defeated North, 61-58. Ryse Williams had 14 points. Long Beach Poly defeated Price, 67-50.
