Boys’ basketball: Thousand Oaks escapes with 55-54 win over Westlake

Down by six points in the third quarter, Thousand Oaks rallied to take a nine-point lead with five minutes left, then had to survive a Westlake rally to pull out a 55-54 win over the Warriors on Friday night in a Marmonte League game at Westlake.
Matt Hauser came alive in the fourth quarter and finished with 19 points for Thousand Oaks (22-3, 7-1).
Thousand Oaks missed a layup with 9.3 seconds left. Westlake got the rebound, called a timeout and set up a final play.
Thousand Oaks smartly double teamed point guard Isaiah Brooks, who ended up passing the ball to a wide-open Alvie Thompson for an outside shot from the right wing. The shot failed to connect, Thousand Oaks got the rebound and celebrated a victory that leaves the Lancers tied for first place with Oaks Christian. Westlake dropped to 19-6 and 6-2.
Brooks had 17 points for Westlake.
Calabasas defeated Newbury Park, 65-47. Justin Bessard had 18 points and Conner Longmire 14. Oaks Christian defeated Agoura, 64-44.
